Cracked Screen

Glass or full panel. The OLED and LCD screens are different parts, so we confirm the model first.

Battery Won't Hold

An hour of play where you used to get three means a worn cell. The OLED shipped with a larger battery than the LCD, so replacements are model-specific.

Stick Drift And Dead Buttons

Drift is mechanical wear inside the stick module. Recalibration never holds; replacing the module does.

Board-Level Faults

Dead units, no charge, no display and USB-C ports that have taken a knock. Diagnosed under the microscope and reworked at component level rather than written off.

Broken Bumpers

The L1 and R1 bumpers are the Deck's known weak point — the plastic tab behind them snaps and the button goes soft or dead. Replacement parts are available.

Charging Port Damage

Charges only at a certain angle or not at all. We replace the port and check the pads beneath it, because a port pulled hard enough to fail often lifts one.

Fan Whine And Heat

Valve used two different fan suppliers on the LCD models and one whines far more than the other. If yours is the noisy type, swapping it is a real fix, not a placebo.

Wi-Fi Dropping

Falling off the network close to the router as well as far from it points at the module or antenna path rather than your broadband.

The Deck takes a 2230-size NVMe drive, which is shorter than the 2280 sticks most laptops use — a great many drives simply will not fit. Some also draw more power than the Deck is happy supplying, which shows up as instability rather than an outright failure. Steam Deck Questions Answered

What goes wrong with the Steam Deck most often?

Stick drift, broken L1 and R1 bumpers, worn batteries and cracked screens, roughly in that order. The bumpers are a genuine design weak point rather than bad luck, and fan noise on the LCD models depends on which of the two suppliers made yours.

Can I wait while you repair it?

For most jobs, yes. Stick modules, bumpers, batteries, charging ports, fans and SSD upgrades are all done at the Deira bench while you wait. Screen replacements and board-level work we usually prefer to book in so they can be tested properly afterwards.

Is the repair guaranteed?

Every repair carries 90 days on parts and labour. Keep the invoice, and if the same fault returns inside that window bring the Deck back and we will put it right — that covers the part we fitted and the work we did.

What will a Steam Deck repair cost?

It depends entirely on the fault, so we will not quote a figure before looking at it. Diagnosis is free and carries no obligation: we tell you what is wrong and exactly what it would cost, and nothing starts without your agreement.

Can you fix SteamOS problems too?

Yes, though we check the hardware first. A failing SSD and a dying battery both imitate a software fault convincingly, and reimaging a Deck with dying storage just wastes an afternoon for both of us.

Which SSD can I actually put in a Steam Deck?

It has to be a 2230-size NVMe drive, which is considerably shorter than the 2280 sticks most laptops take, so many drives will not physically fit. Power draw matters too — some drives make the Deck unstable rather than simply not working.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Usually, yes. Valve designed the Deck to be serviced and publishes its parts, which is unusual and makes most repairs economic. The exception is heavy liquid damage, and if yours is beyond sensible repair we will say so rather than take your money.

Do you work on the OLED as well as the LCD?

Both. They are not the same machine underneath — the OLED has a different panel, a larger battery and revised internals — so parts are model-specific and we confirm which one you have before ordering anything.
